Senecio Rawleyanus is a perennial, succulent vine. It receives its popular names such as String of Pearls or String of Beads from its unique rounded leaves that resemble beads. They are native to South Africa and hence enjoy the bright sunshine. General

String of Pearls is a low maintenance plant and very easy to grow, even for beginners

Your succulent plant has the ability to reduce and balance formaldehyde levels, making it one of the best Air Purifying Plant

They can grow up to a height of 4 to 7 inches at maturity

The String of Pearls is a Cascading plant that looks great when placed in a hanging planter and makes for a great conversation starter. It can also be used as a tabletop plant when placed on shelves and desks

Sunlight

Provide your String of Pearls with bright indirect light. It is advisable to keep the plant a little away from the window glass

Do not allow direct sunlight to hit the foliage as it may damage the leaves

In case of insufficient Sunlight, place your String of Pearls 6 - 12 inches below a fluorescent light fixture for about 12- 16 hours per day.

Watering

Being succulent, your String of Pearls requires very little water. Water your String of Pearls only when the top half-inch of the soil is completely dry or when the leaves which are usually firm, starts feeling soft.

For watering, use the Soak and Dry watering method. In summer, watering once every 2 weeks should be sufficient. Reduce this frequency in winter.

It is vital to ensure proper drainage, as overwatering or standing water can lead to root rot.

Soil

Your Senecio rowleyanus Plant like any succulent requires well-draining soil containing a good amount of perlite and sand. Your plant can use succulent potting soil, although sandy soil is preferable

For Repotting, use a combination of 3 part good potting soil and 1 part sharp sand. Or you could also use 35% River sand + 15% Cocopeat + 35% Organic manure/Vermicompost + 15% perlite

Fertilizer

Your plant should be fertilized once a month using a 20-10-20 NPK Houseplant Fertilizer during their growth season (February to October). Avoid fertilizing during winter.

Toxicity

String of Pearls is toxic and not suitable for spaces with pets and children

Additional Care

Avoid frequently misting your plant, especially at the crown as it is likely to lead to rot

It is important to ensure the crowns of the pearls stay at the same level with the top of the pot or at most 0.5 - 1 inch lower than the top. Otherwise, the aeration will decrease, and together with wet soil, the crowns and stems of the plant may rot.

Make sure to let the soil dry out between watering sessions in order to prevent the roots from rotting.

Succulents are in general prone to fungi attacks. Therefore it is good to treat your succulent mix with fungicide proactively.
