Alternanthera Brasiliana, Plant

Alternanthera brasiliana is a tall, herbaceous plant that can reach a height of 3 metres in the wild, but is normally kept to a height of less than 1 metre in cultivation. This Purple Joyweed is occasionally gathered in the wild for usage as a food and medicine in the local community. It's commonly planted as a decorative plant.

General

The stems of the Alternanthera Brasiliania plant, which range in colour from red to green to purple, are delicately hirsute while young but turn glabrescent as they mature.

The vanilla-colored pom-pom blooms are small and arranged in compact clusters (7–20 mm long) at the upper leaf branches.

These Purple Joyweed clusters are spherical to somewhat extended in shape, and they are foaled on 3–10 cm long stalks.

It can bloom at any time of year, however it blooms more frequently in the winter in temperate and cooler subtropical areas.
