Commonly used as that little houseplant during the Christmas season, your Norfolk pine makes wonderful houseplants. It is an evergreen native plant to the subtropical regions of the South Pacific Regions. These plants keep growing splendidly for years. Norfolk Island pines are believed to bring a big dose of happiness to your home and family for years that make them an excellent Indoor plant to have.

General

Your Christmas Tree is also known as Norfolk Pine but it is not a tree belonging to the pine family. Your Christmas Tree is a close relative of the monkey puzzle tree.

Norfolk Pines can grow up to 200 feet in height in their natural habitat, but as an Indoor plant, they will grow up to 3 to 8 feet in height.

Sunlight

Your Christmas Tree prefers bright direct sunlight for faster growth. However, they can also handle relatively dimmer or indirect sunlight. Try keeping your plant in direct bright sunlight for at least 4 hours a day for faster growth. The less light your Norfolk receives, the more it will be stretching out reaching for the light.

Your plant will prefer a temperature between 16-24 ℃. Try to keep your Norfolk from hot or cold drafts and cooling vents as they are intolerant to colder and inconsistent temperatures.

Watering

Water your plant once every week if it is placed in lower light and twice a week if you have placed it in bright light. Allow the soil to dry out between the next watering schedule.

Norfolk Island pines are natively drought-tolerant and thus, they can tolerate if you forgot to water them sometimes. But if the needles of your plant start turning yellow, then your plant needs more water.

Soil

Your Coleus Plant grows well in well-draining, aerated, and fertile soil. You can use soil with a pH of 6-7 for your plant.

Fertilizer

You can add a balanced liquid fertilizer (20-20-20) to your Christmas Tree once every two weeks during their growing period. Consider using an acidic fertilizer during summers for better foliage growth.

However, you must stop adding the fertilizing in the low-light periods.

Toxicity

Norfolk Island Pine is considered to cause depression and vomiting in cats and dogs if ingested. It is safe to handle for humans, however, some people may experience skin burning after coming in contact with the plant.

Additional Care

Mealybugs: They are white-colored pests that suck the plant juices- Spray or clean the leaves of your plant with an alcohol-based solution.

Spider Mites : They destroy the leaves of the plants and turn them yellow to eventually kill your plants- Rub or spray any alcohol solution to the infected leaves to remove them
