Syngonium Batik | Arrowhead Plants

Syngonium Batik plant, also known as Arrowhead Vine/Arrowhead Plants, gets its name from Indonesia's wax-dyed cloth. It is low maintenance, vine-like plant with green arrowhead-shaped leaves. This climbing plant will grow up trellis or coir pole or trail down to create a great desktop plant or hanging basket. A simple yet elegant and versatile houseplant, Syngonium is extremely easy to grow and requires very little attention.

General

NASA research has found this plant to be a

top air purifier. It can purify the surrounding air from deadly toxins like Toluene, Xylene and Benzene, making it one of the best Air Purifying Plants.

The Syngonium can grow as tall as 3 - 6 feet and as wide as 1 - 2 ft.

While they don't often bloom, Syngonium can occasionally produce white flowers.

Sunlight

Smaller plants tend to thrive in partial shade. But as they grow, they can tolerate more light.

Avoid direct sunlight as that will scorch their leaves.

If there is more growth on one side, it is likely to be receiving more sunlight than the other side. Rotate the pot to ensure consistent growth.

Watering

It is important to water your Arrowhead Plants before the top one inch of the soil drys out. Don't let it get completely dry.

The soil mix should be kept lightly moist during spring & summer, and slightly drier during fall & winter.

Your Arrowhead Plants loves a humid environment. Hence, it's advisable to mist your plant in dry weather or if placed indoors when the humidity is low.

Soil

Use a rich potting mix that offers superior draining and aerating capabilities.

For repotting, use a combination of 40% Potting Soil + 25% cocopit + 25% Organic manure/Vermicompost + 5% charcoal chips + 5% perlite.

Fertilizer

Fertilize your Arrowhead Plants every 2 to 3 weeks in the growing season. It is best to choose a liquid fertilizer that is high in nitrogen, as it will help your plant flourish.

Toxicity

Syngonium Batik / Arrowhead Plant is toxic and not suitable for spaces with pets and children.

Additional Care

Clean your Syngonium's leaves every fortnight to prevent dust accumulation.

Prune your plant during summer to encourage new growth and make the plant look bushier.

You can use 2- to 3-inch or 5-8 cm layers of organic mulch to help prevent the moisture from evaporating.

Arrowhead Plants have a low tolerance for cold, dry air . So they will need to be frequently misted and provided with adequate heat during winter.

Although rare, your Arrowhead Plants can be susceptible to powdery mildew and pests like aphids and spider mite
