Insulin Plant, Costus igneus – Plant

The Spiral flag, also known as Costus igneus and Costus pictus D. Don, is a Costaceae plant that was recently introduced to India from South and Central America. It's a perennial with spirally arranged leaves and lovely flowers that grows erect and spreads to about two feet tall.

General

It is widely planted as a decorative plant in Southern India, and the leaves are used as a food supplement in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

A variety of studies have been conducted to assess this plant's anti-diabetic potential.

The Insulin plant has been shown to have pharmacological properties such as hypolipidemic, diuretic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-cancer properties.

It's necessary to keep track of where your Costus Igneus plant is potted to get the best foliage and keep it growing for as long as possible. In your balcony garden, place your plant.

Sunlight

For survival, your Insulin plant needs adequate bright indirect light. It thrives in a low-light indoor setting.

If you're going to keep the Insulin tree indoors, make sure it gets enough bright indirect light at least twice a week.
