The Jade Plant is a favourite succulent houseplant, native to South Africa that is extremely easy to grow. Their low maintenance and less watering requirements make them a favourite among houseplants enthusiasts. They have jade-green leaves that are thick, shiny, and smooth. General

Your Jade Plants are believed to bring good luck to the owners, and thus, they are often passed down from generation to generation and are also given as housewarming gifts.

The Jade plant usually blooms by late winter, and the plant gets adorned with white or pink flowers.

These succulents are known to grow up to a height of 3 to 6 feet. But this can be a slow process as they grow only about two inches a year.

Sunlight

Your Jade Plant, especially the young ones, ideally require about 4-6 hours of bright indirect sunlight. Well-established Jade Plants can handle a little bit of direct sunlight.

Although the plant can tolerate higher temperatures, try to maintain a temperature of 18 -24 ℃ in the morning and 10 -13 ℃ at night.

Watering

Before watering, ensure the upper inch of the soil has dried up. But never let your Jade Plant completely dry out.

During the summer and spring, you may need to water your Jade Plant once a week or once a month, depending on how quickly the soil dries out. It will reduce significantly during winter.

Soil

Your Jade Plant grows well in evenly moist and fertile soil with a slightly acidic touch.

You can consider using sandy loamy soil for your plant or any soil potting mix for your plant.

Fertilizer

Fertilize your plant using a balanced, fat-soluble fertilizer after every six months. Start with a weak liquid fertilizer once weekly. Use a fertilizer with less oxygen on little plants. Always remember using compost after moistening the soil or burn-in in damage to the roots.

Toxicity

Jade Plant is toxic if consumed and is not suitable for spaces with pets and children. It may also cause mild skin irritation in sensitive individuals.

Additional Care

Jade plants can be sensitive to salts in tap water, so use filtered or distilled water if your tap water is not ideal.

Avoid splashing water on your plant leaves as this can expose them to rot in a humid environment.

Wipe leaves with a damp washcloth every few months to keep the foliage looking fresh.

Provide your Jade Plant with enough sunlight, minimum water and no fertilizer as winter approaches. It would help it to bloom by the end of winter or the start of spring. Once the flowers dry and fall off, cut off that stem and water as usual.
