Monstera Peru – Plant

Also known as Karstenianum, Monstera Peru is a hemi-epiphytic vine species that has leather-like green shiny leaves and white flowers that add a bunch of colors to your house. It looks great as a hanging plant, terrarium plant, or simply just as a houseplant due to its ability to vine and climb.

General

The Monstera Peru is a native plant of the Venezuela region.

Your Monstera Peru Plant is an effective air-purifying plant that effectively removes benzene, formaldehyde, and various harmful VOCs from the atmosphere.

Your Monstera Peru Plant can grow up to 18 feet tall when grown indoors.

Sunlight

The Monstera Peru Plant prefers bright indirect sunlight to maintain the color of its foliage. Make sure that you keep them away from the afternoon sunlight or their leaves may get scorched.

Your Plant requires a temperature of no less than 10 C or their health may start to decline. Hence, you must keep your plant indoors during the winter season.

Watering

Water your Monstera Peru Plant only when the 3 inches of the topsoil is dry to touch. You must water them once every 3 days during the summers and once every week during the winters.

Your Plant prefers a high humidity environment and hence, you should consider keeping them in your bathroom or kitchen areas or misting them regularly. You can also place them around other plants too to maintain the humidity level.

Soil

However, during the winter season, you must withhold any fertilizer use as it is the natural resting period for your plants.

Toxicity

Your Monstera Peru Plant is considered to be toxic for pets and humans. Ingestion of it can cause symptoms of diarrhea, nausea, headache, vomiting, and depression.

Additional Care

You should prune your Monstera Peru Plant once every month by removing the dead and dry leaves and flowers from your plant.

You should repot your plant once every year in a pot that is longer than a size bigger than the current pot to help your plant grow the best during the spring or summer season. You must use a new potting mix for your plant then.

The Monstera Peru Plant leaves turning yellow: It is an indication of low humidity- Keep your plants in kitchen or bathroom areas to maintain the humidity levels. You can also mist your plant to maintain the humidity level to at least 50%-70%.
