A popular Feng Shui cure, Spiral Bamboo, is also more famously known as Lucky Bamboo. Even though it resembles stalks of Bamboo, your Spiral Bamboo is not a Bamboo plant, but is a type of Dracaena. This extremely easy-to-grow plant is ideal for the beginning and forgetful gardeners. Lucky Bamboo is more tolerant of lower light than too much, making it the perfect little companion for your office desk.

General

Lucky Bamboo does not naturally have a spiral shape. Cultivators use its ability to be trained into shapes to make a variety of eye-catching shapes and swirls.

It is considered an auspicious plant in Feng Shui and Vastu Shastra, spreading positive energy and bringing good luck to the home.

Sunlight

Your Lucky Bamboo prefers moderate to bright indirect sunlight. In their native environment, Bamboo receives an ample amount of indirect sunlight.

Direct sunlight will cause scorch its leaves, damaging your plant.

Your Spiral Bamboo cannot tolerate a temperature below 60℉. So during the winters, you must keep them indoors to protect them from frost and freezing.

Watering

If you are growing your plant in soil, keep the soil slightly damp but do not overwater it or it can lead to root rot.

You can water your plane thrice every week during summers and once a week during winters.

Your Bamboo plant can be grown in water as well. If you choose to grow your plant in water, make sure that the roots are always placed in water. Change the water every 5 to 6 days to keep the water clean.

You must mist the leaves of your Spiral Bamboo once every day as they prefer a humid condition for proper growth.

Soil

Your Stonecrop Succulent Plant grows well in soil that is neutral to acidic in nature. You should also consider using soil that is well-draining and aerated.

Fertilizer

Your plant requires a monthly feeding of fertilizers high in nitrogen content. You can also use organic compost and manure as a fertilizer as your Bamboo responds very well to it.

Toxicity

Spiral Bamboo is toxic if ingested for pets. It can lead to vomiting, weakness, abdominal pain, and drooling. It is non-toxic for humans.

Additional Care

If you notice any part of your Bamboo turning yellow, that indicates your plant could be sick. You must remove the yellow part of the stem or the leaves or it can spread to the rest of your plant.

Pests like mealybugs, mites, and fungal infections can affect your plant. In that case, you must remove the infected part and keep the stem and leaves dry.

Change the water every 2 - 4 weeks if you grow your Lucky Bamboo in water. When changing the water, add a small drop of liquid fertilizer to help the lucky Bamboo grow.

Avoid placing your Lucky Bamboo near drafty areas, like in front of an air conditioner, heating vent, or by a drafty window.

Troubleshooting

Brown Tips of leaves: It is an indication of under-watering your plant- Water your plant once a day but avoid over watering them.

Leaves turning yellow: Yellowing of leaves is one of the biggest sign of root rot caused by excessive watering- Avoid overly watering the plant and keep it on a dryer side.
