Kidney Stone Plant | Bryophyllum Pinnatum

The Kidney Stone Plant, also known as Bryophyllum Pinnatum, is one of the less common succulent species of indoor houseplants. A member of the Bryophyllum Pinnatum species, your Kidney Stone Plant is also known as the Life plant, Miracle leaf, and Goethe plant due to their miraculous healing effect on the human body. They are a native of Madagascar and can grow up to 5 feet.

General

They have fleshy stems with dark green leaves with red margins on them. They have bell-shaped flowers that range from reddish-purple colour.

Your Bryophyllum Pinnatum or Kidney Stone Plant is a perennial herbaceous plant used in the natural treatment of kidney stones, gastric ulcers, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.

With a pleasantly mild flavour, they can be cooked or used raw in salads.

Sunlight

Your Bryophyllum Pinnatum Plant requires plenty of indirect sunlight to grow and maintain a beautiful reddish outline on its leaves.

During the summers, do not allow direct sunlight on the plant, as its leaves store a lot of water, and will burn quickly. However, some direct sunlight during fall and early spring will not harm your plant.

During the winters, protect the plant from frost as it is frost intolerant.

Watering

Your hearty plant does not need excessive water and does well with minimal watering. You can water your plant once every two weeks during the summer and spring seasons. Be sure to let the soil of your plant dry out entirely before watering.
