A native to tropical Africa, the Dracaena Limelight grows a sturdy cane-like stem that adds an architectural advantage to its whimsical foliage. It's also commonly referred to as a corn plant since its foliage resembles a cornstalk's leaves. Their stalky stems and foliage with white-yellow stripes around gray-green centers trade in the monotonous green for a fun and refreshing look.

General

With an ability to tolerate lower light, this easy-to-grow Plant is an ideal choice for decorating your office.

Dracaena gets its name from an ancient Greek word, 'Drakaina', which means a female dragon due to their red resin in the stems. Centuries ago, this resin of Dracaena was used as dyes, toothpaste, and in medicines. Even today, it's used in photoengraving and varnishing.

Your Dracaena Lemon Lite can reach a height of 5ft-7ft when grown indoors and does not require a lot of attention.

Sunlight

Your Dracaena Lemon Lite will thrive in moderate to bright indirect sunlight.

Never place your Dracaena in direct sun, as the rays will scorch its foliage. But very low light can cause the leaves' variegation to fade and stunt the Plant's growth.

Plant growth may start to decline at temperatures below 13℃.

Watering

As your Dracaena Lemon Lite is sensitive to root rot, you must only water your Plant only when the soil's top half is dry. This may amount to watering once or twice a week in summer. Reduce watering frequency to about 1 -2 times a month in the winter. To avoid root rot, water less frequently when growing under low light conditions.

Avoid fluoridated water, as fluoride can cause discolouration of the leaves.

While your Corn Plant will survive normal humidity levels, it prefers high humidity. You can increase humidity by misting it often, placing it near a humidifier, or using a pebble tray

Soil

Dracaena Lemon Lite prefers well-draining and aerated loose soil for better growth. You can also mix your normal potting mix for planting it.

Fertilizer

Your Dracaena Lemon Lite does not require fertilizers to thrive, but it can enhance their growth. In summers and autumn, you can feed your Plant once a month with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer at half strength.

You must not feed your Dracaenas in the fall or winter.

Dracaena Lemon Lite is considered to be safe for humans but is toxic for dogs and cats.

Additional Care

Your Dracaena Lemon Lite being a hardy plant, is not particularly prone to pests or diseases, apart from the common houseplant pests such as scale, mealybugs, and spider mites. Clean your Plant regularly to keep them away.

New leaves grow from the top, and as your Dracaena Lemon Lite grows, it is normal for the leaves at the bottom to fall off. If your Plant becomes too tall, you can prune the top off with a pair of sharp pruning shears or scissors.

If you notice brown leaf tips of your plant, you must cut them off with wet scissors to encourage new growth.

Troubleshooting

Brown spots on leaves: It is an indication of either fluoride toxicity or excessive watering- Use distilled water for watering your plant or if you are using tap water, keep the water still overnight. Also, water your plant only when the topsoil is dry to touch.

Leaves turning yellow: Yellowing of leaves is caused by excessive watering- Avoid overly watering the plant and keep it on a dryer side.
